CDT Class Description

Below are the details of each class that are enjoyed at Carlson Canine Camp:

PUPPY PRESCHOOL:   Puppies 8 – 14 weeks old at the start of class.  We work on confidence building, socialization, and begin some basic instruction of commands.

BEGINNING OBEDIENCE:  Dogs 4 months and older.  Learn basics of heel, sit, stay, auto sit, appropriate house behavior etc.  (Petite Pooches would be considered Cocker Spaniels and smaller!)

INTERMEDIATE OBEDIENCE
:  Dogs 4 months and older who have completed beginning obedience.  Work on detailing what was learned in beginner’s class, including working with hand signals and voice.

ADVANCED OBEDIENCE
:
Advanced class continues what we do in Intermediate.  We will continue working many other behaviors that make your dog a friendly confident and pleasant dog to live with.  Much of what we work on will be off-leash, but we will be using hand signals and having the dogs listen and respond quickly.

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN:

A class that teaches dogs to handle all kinds of situations.  You will know your dog is trustworthy and one that's a pleasure to own.  This class is very beneficial for people who want to visit schools, hospitals, and nursing homes with their dogs.  Price includes the test that is done at the end of the class.

THERAPY DOG CLASS
:
Next in progression to Canine Good Citizen.  This is for people considering certifying their dog with Therapy Dog International.  Certification allows dog/handler teams to visit nursing homes, hospitals, and libraries to do volunteer work with patients and/or children needing help to improve their reading skills.

RALLY OBEDIENCE:
This class is a fun and exciting team sport for dogs and their handlers! Dog and Handler teams navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform such as Sit-Down-Sit, Straight Figure 8, Send Over Jump, Recall Over Jump. Teams navigate the course at a brisk, continuous performance without direction from the judge. Handlers are encouraged to talk to their dogs during the performance.

NOSE WORK FOR FUN:
Build on your dog’s natural abilities and desire to sniff and hunt. It’s a new activity to mentally and physically exercise your dog, build their confidence, relieve stress, and strengthen the relationship between owner and canine.

HOUSEHOLD MANNERS:
Do you want your dog to be a lady or a gentleman in your home? If your answer is yes, then Household Manners is the class for you. We will focus on common household issues such as, table manners, no jumping, polite greetings, taking treats gently, door etiquette, and many more.

REACTIVE DOG:
A reactive dog is a dog that barks, jumps, lunges, snaps or bites at other dogs or people who are near the dog. Reactive dogs can be a challenge to the stressed out owner. This class will help you manage or change your dogs that over-reacts to people or other dogs.

"We train using positive reinforcement - no prong collars, no choke chains - because we want the dog to trust you, not fear you"
